Micrometers, calipers
and coordinate measuring machines are some of the most used
dimensional
metrology equipment in industrial and machine tool
production.
CMMs are based on CNC
technology automating part measuring processes via physical
contact with them. In coordinate
or
dimensional metrology the actual shape of a part is
being measured and compared to the desired shape through
evaluation of information about size, form, orientation and
location etc. Precision engineering or
precision
metrology is often performed in a controlled
environment. Recent trends in
CMM Metrology have moved
the coordinate measuring processes from controlled labs to
the machine shop floor and production arena. |
